Most events about AI and film are people talking about AI and film. The Turin Hackathon is the opposite: cross-disciplinary teams move from an idea to a working film prototype, then present what they built to the VIA community. Nothing gets presented that does not exist.
How it works
Teams form across disciplines — filmmakers, developers and designers together rather than in separate rooms — and work toward a prototype they can show by the end of the session. The mixed-team requirement is the whole design. A developer alone builds a clever tool nobody wants to shoot with. A director alone describes something impossible. Together they tend to find the narrow, useful thing that actually works.
What counts as a prototype
- A production workflow that removes a real bottleneck
- A tool that solves one specific problem in the edit or on set
- A short sequence that proves a technique is viable
- An interface that makes an existing model usable by a non-technical crew
Who should come
Filmmakers tired of waiting for tools to be built for them. Developers who want their work used by people with taste. Designers who can hold the two together. You do not need to arrive with a team or a finished idea — teams form at the event.
